The Blind Persons Rights Act
Toronto, Ontario
1970
Ontario becomes the first province to pass a law guaranteeing a blind
person the legal right to be accompanied by a specially trained dog guide
in all facilities open to the public. And no extra charge can be levied
because of the dog guide's presence.
A user of a guide dog is also guaranteed the right to equal housing opportunities
and no special conditions or terms can be imposed because of the dog's
presence.
Check out a true story of how this law worked
in practice.
