Truth and Reconciliation

The Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC) was established to document the history and lasting impacts of the Canadian Indian Residential school system on Indigenous students and their families. The TRC provided residential school survivors an opportunity to share their experiences during public and private meetings held across the country.

In December 2015, the TRC released its final multi-volume report, including 94 “calls to action” to further reconciliation between Canadians and Indigenous peoples.

The TRC’s Final Report is a testament to the courage of each and every survivor and family member who shared their story. All Canadians are encouraged to read the summary or the final report to learn more about the terrible history and legacy of what were known as the Indian Residential Schools.
