A significant step forward for women and gender equality

“The Canadian Human Rights Commission welcomes yesterday’s announcement by Labour Minister Patty Hajdu of proactive pay equity legislation.

“This is a significant step forward for women and gender equality.

“Introducing this legislation is an acknowledgement that fundamental inequalities in pay still exist for far too many workers in Canada. This new law will help ensure that everyone within federal jurisdiction receives equal pay for work of equal value. It will benefit not only individuals and families, but the Canadian economy and society as a whole.”

“We look forward to studying the Bill and welcome an opportunity to provide input as it makes its way through the legislative process.”
