“As we celebrate National AccessAbility Week, let’s think big and ensure Canada is a world leader in accessibility.

“As a country that prides itself on inclusion and acceptance, the Accessible Canada Act challenges all of us to proactively eliminate barriers that stand in people's way.

“A Canada without barriers is a Canada where everyone can take part in, and be a part of our schools, our workplaces and our public spaces. An accessible Canada is one where everyone is celebrated, included and empowered.

“Discussions about accessibility must start in our communities. I encourage everyone to exchange ideas and challenge assumptions. Let’s stand together, with people with disabilities and their families, because accessibility enables us all.

The Canadian Human Rights Commission will soon be conducting a survey, specifically asking people with disabilities in Canada and the organizations that represent them what key human rights areas need to be our top priority as we begin our work monitoring Canada’s implementation of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.
