2022-23 Reporting on Green Procurement

This supplementary information table supports reporting on green procurement activities in accordance with the Policy on Green Procurement.

1. Context

The Commission is bound by the Federal Sustainable Development Act but did not develop an optional 2022–23 DSDS Report. Instead, to comply with the reporting requirements under the Policy on Green Procurement for 2022 to 2023, the Reporting on Green Procurement supplementary information table was prepared and listed in the 2022–23 Departmental Results Report.

Environmental fees are systematically embedded in all contracts for IT hardware purchases made through Shared Services Canada. Green procurement incorporates environmental considerations into purchasing decisions and is expected to motivate suppliers to green their goods, services and supply chain

For 2022-23, we relied on surplus cartridge inventory from previous years. 100% of all used multifunction device cartridges are recycled. Idem

Result not available for 2022-23 as the Commission did not make any stationary purchases over the last year due to its reliance on previous year inventories. Idem

All procurement officers have completed the mandatory training on green procurement for a better understanding of this initiative and to provide guidance. Idem

All managers and functional heads of procurement and material management whose performance evaluation includes “contribution to and support for the Government of Canada’s Policy on Green Procurement objectives” have met this objective in the past fiscal year. Idem

3. Report on integrating sustainable development

During the 2022–23 reporting cycle, the Commission had no proposals that required a strategic environmental assessment and no public statements were produced.
